Shocking the Poop Out of the Pool

We've all been here, right? Lifeguard blows her whistle and all the sudden you or your kiddos are being rushed from the pool like Jaws is in the water because a little stinker forgot the #1 rule to get to the potty and let #2 slip from his swimsuit.

While there's an obvious need for evacuation because no one should be floating next to...well, you get it, we wondered about the specific reason for the rush to evacuate the pool. Turns out, the Center for Disease Control has a lot to say about the need to shock the poop out of the pool!

Keeping the pool closed allows the chlorine to do its job and prevent Recreational Water Illnesses (RWIs, yep, it even has an acronym). Why does this matter to you? Well, a few of those RWIs that could be spread through poo are e. coli, giardia, hepatitis A, and crypto parasite. It turns out these crummy germs can move quickly through water so it's no joke when you hear that Lifeguard blow the whistle to get you out of the pool. Have little stinkers swimming around? They gotta get out. Quick.

The Potty Rocker is here to help you give your kiddos an explanation for why their epic summer pool day just came to a screeching, stinky stop. You'll help them turn their frown upside down when you explain that getting out of the water is protecting them from germs that could make them sick. Give them the names for the germs and explain that the chlorine in the pool is working hard to kick those germs to the curb. You could even have them think up a cheer for the chlorine - or find the snack stand and splurge on a delicious Popsicle. Either road you choose, make sure it's clear of the pool. It's the last place you actually want to be.

And in case somehow you've missed it, before you head to your pool party this summer, watch The Potty Rocker's PSA with your kiddos. You certainly don't want to be the family who goes from having a pool party to a pool potty!
